Daddy Lumba’s Legal Wife and Children File Court Injunction to Stop Unauthorized Funeral Plans

The family of Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has taken legal action to halt unauthorized funeral arrangements announced without their consent.

In a press release issued on October 9, 2025, Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, the legal wife of Daddy Lumba, and their children confirmed they have filed an urgent court injunction against what they describe as “unapproved and distressing funeral plans.”

According to the family, they were shocked to learn—through social media—of a planned December 6, 2025 funeral date allegedly organized by Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu and a self-appointed funeral committee. The statement condemned the move as “disrespectful and unlawful,” asserting that the official widow was never consulted despite still mourning her husband and preparing to travel from Germany to Ghana.

Marriage and Legal Rights Under German Law

The family emphasized that Mrs. Fosuh is Daddy Lumba’s only legal wife, citing their 2004 marriage in Bornheim, Germany, conducted under German civil law, which strictly forbids bigamy under Section 1306 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch).

They clarified that any subsequent unions are “legally null and void” and called on the public to recognize the legitimate marital and family rights of Mrs. Fosuh and her children.

The statement also noted that the cause of Daddy Lumba’s death, which occurred on July 26, 2025, in Accra, remains under investigation.

Family Appeals for Respect and Official Communication

In the release, the family appealed to fans, friends, and the media to disregard all unofficial funeral announcements until proper dialogue has been held.

“We kindly ask everyone to ignore any unapproved information about the funeral. The family is working to ensure a respectful and dignified farewell that truly honors Lumba’s legacy,” the statement read.

They assured the public that official funeral plans will be announced soon through appropriate channels once all family members and legal parties have reached consensus.

Remembering Daddy Lumba’s Legacy

Daddy Lumba, 60, remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians, with a career spanning over four decades and more than 30 hit albums, including timeless classics such as Aben Wo Ha, Theresa Abebrese, and Yentie Obiaa.

His influence on highlife music and Ghanaian culture continues to resonate globally. The current dispute, however, sheds light on the legal and cultural challenges that often arise in managing the legacies of public figures in Ghana.

As the court injunction hearing approaches, fans around the world are urged to stay patient and await official updates. The family has vowed to ensure that Daddy Lumba’s farewell reflects his true legacy, dignity, and impact on Ghanaian music.
